Fiction Adaptation, finished.

After many hours of editing it is finished, yay.  I' am quite happy with what I have managed to achieve, and although I have had to alter sections that I hadn't planned to alter, I prefer the final piece with the alterations. One of the things I changed was the music. Originally the piano piece I had in was very nice, but somehow didn't give the film the feel I was looking for. So the piece I used instead is Infatuation by Robert J P Oberg. I love his music, and he is very original, and offers his music for free download on his site, which is very useful. I also decided that I wasn't going to use a V.O for the poetry, but instead on screen text, as this would be less distracting. Also my V.O man is away on his holidays, and if I couldn't have him, there really wasn't anyone else..  It has been nice to be able to edit from home, as well as being a lot easier in relation to the easter break and looking after my daughter.
Its nice to be at the end of this unit, as the essay is almost done, and the film is complete, this will mean I can concentrate more on the as-live work..

Fiction Adaptation, The shoot.

The shoot went well, although it was easy, as I had three children with me at the time, and I spent most of my time trying to keep them out of shot. The lighting on the day wasn't as forecast (sunny) but instead it was overcast with a lot of glare reflecting off the bottom of the clouds. My actor did an amazing job, considering he hates the camera, and getting a photograph of him is almost impossible. The cannon 7d was really good to use, it took a little playing around with to set it up how I wanted it, and it doesn't do too well with close up shots, but the picture quality is very nice. Exporting the media afterwards, wasn't straight forward. instead of importing directly to final cut, I had to import the media through i-capture, then import from there into final cut. Little annoying, but I got there in the end.

Fiction Adaptation, update

Its been a while since I last blogged, but to be honest I haven't felt I've had much to blog about..
After having successfully created the title sequence for the fiction adaptation unit, I was then unable retrieve the file of the computer, so that I could use it. This resulted in me uploading it to youtube, and having to rip it off again from home. I have been doing my editing at home, which has made life a little easier over  the easter break.

my aslive pitch

I propose a 30 minute quiz show named Historica Horrenda. Quirky and light hearted. A new kind of geek chic primarily aimed at channel 5 and its prime time audience, showing at around 6pm.

What is Historica Horrenda? Well basically it’s an adult quiz show that focuses on the slightly more gruesome segments of history but in a light hearted manner, remaining informative but interesting. To ensure this I will employ people from re-enactment societies to participate as contestants, giving the costume department ample opportunities as well as insuring, interesting and quirky contestants. There are plenty of re-enactment societies in the Kent area, so we won’t be short of people. I have also taken the time to speak with a couple of people from re-enactment societies, Peter Frost from The Erith and District Old Timers re-enactment group, he has expressed an interest in my proposal, and feels that with the 25 people in the group it shouldn’t be a problem getting at least 3 people to participate. Also The Sittingbourne Home Front Living History Group has ten people within their group, and after speaking with Andy Leppenwell, their main contact, he too has expressed an interest in my proposal and feels it won’t be a problem persuading other members.

It will have an active audience who are there to cheer the participants on especially during the activity round.

Participants will be in two teams of three. The idea being is to have fun and whoever has the most points by the end of the show wins.

Contestants will also be dressed in costumes that represent the era/period that they re-enact.

 This is aimed at people who have previously enjoyed programs like Time Team or Mud Men.

Set. Paraphernalia from different periods in history, e.g., Hangman’s gallows, stocks, shields, swords, castle walls.

Format

Title sequence.

Intro with presenter, who would introduce each team, and the V.T.

 1st round would be quick fire question round. Example questions.....

How did Lucius Fabius Cilo, a Roman senator of the 2nd century die? "...He choked to death on a single hair in a drink of milk.

How long was the longest tapeworm found inside a human?  35m.

What did the Romans use as toothpaste? Crushed mouse brains.

 2^nd round would be re-enactment/charades using V.Ts to show the team re-enacting a scene from history, in costume, each team would perform one each for the other team to guess.

 3^rd round Activity round would be depending on the risk assessments either jousting (on tricycles using pillows on jousting poles), or answering questions whilst in the stocks being pelted with wet sponges.
